Bringing the Coffee Shop Home: How to Brew Jaunt Anywhere
Share
The Jaunt experience doesn't have to end when you leave our San Diego coffee shop. Whether you need an afternoon boost at the office, a perfect cup for a Saturday morning date, or just want to enjoy your favorite brew in the comfort of your home, we have you covered. While many of our coffee lovers pick up bags of freshly roasted coffee from our shelves in Miramar, you can also have that same perfect start to your day delivered straight to your front door. Once those beans arrive, perhaps the only question left is how to brew them. Here are the three most popular ways to craft the perfect cup of Jaunt: drip coffee maker, French press, and pour over.

Oh yes, the drip coffee maker is the most common way coffee drinkers make their coffee in the morning. It's easy to use one of those coffee machines that has an automatic start setting. Basically you put in the amount of coffee and water that you want according to your coffee maker’s directions and tap a button. We recommend a medium ground coffee that is brewed at a 1:15 or 1:16 coffee-to-water ratio. This can always be adjusted according to your preference to how strong you want your coffee to be. Also, a paper filter will knock out some of the acidity compared to one of the metal filters. We encourage you to explore what you enjoy.

The French press method is a crowd favorite. You want to grab a water kettle and heat the water to 204⁰F and use a burr grinder to grind your favorite Jaunt roast to a coarse consistency. When the water gets up to temperature, pour a little bit into the French press before adding the coffee to get the container to a warmer temp. Then, add those grounds to your beaker and pour in the water. Take a moment to stir your coffee to ensure an even extraction. Place the lid on the container without pressing the plunger. Then, wait for the flavors to infuse for 4 minutes or longer depending on how strong you want your coffee— longer and stronger. Too long will cause bitterness though. After the time is up, gently press the plunger, carefully pour into your favorite mug, and enjoy.

The pour ever method is debatably the best way to make your coffee to highlight its nuanced flavors. The first step is to use a bur grinder to grind up your freshly roasted Jaunt coffee to a medium size ground and begin warming up water to 204°F. Measure out 1:15 ratio of coffee to water depending on how strong you want your coffee to be. Next, pull out your favorite pour over tool whether that be a Chemex, V60, or something similar. You'll want to rinse your paper filter and put it in your pour over tool. I have your coffee and when your water has reached its temperature start pouring it over with this technique.
- Pour a small amount of water to wet the grounds and wait about 30 seconds to let the coffee “bloom.”
- Slowly pour the remaining water in gentle, concentric circles. A good water kettle will help with this.
